by Steven L. Stroh, Greiner Engineering Sciences Inc, Tampa, FL, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Bridges and Transmission Line Structures

Abstract:

Dynamic considerations in the design of three recently designed cable stayed bridges are discussed. The presentation includes analysis for eigenfrequencies and eigenmodes, assessment of aerodynamic stability and analysis under earthquake loading. The bridges are (with the year design commenced): Sunshine Skyway Bridge Replacement, Tampa, Florida (1981); Eugene Talmadge Memorial Bridge Replacement, Savannah, Georgia (1984); Houston Ship Channel Bridge, Baytown, Texas (1985). The designs presented are the steel alternate designs for each bridge site. In accordance with Federal Highway Administration guidelines, each of the bridges also had a concrete alternate design which was bid competitively.
