Abstract:

A 1:75 scale physical model of a thermal discharge into a rocky, semi-enclosed bay was verified against extensive field data. The model accurately reproduced the prototype temperature distribution, both inside and outside the cove, including both lateral and vertical temperature distributions. Accurate portrayal of the cove bathymetry, bottom roughness and wave climate was found to be essential for the model to be a reliable predictive tool.
