Abstract:

This paper reviews the test cases employed by several investigators in the development of two- and three-dimensional finite difference and finite element hydrodynamic and transport models. Test cases for which analytical solutions are available are compiled. The hydrodynamic cases considered include periodic forcing, dynamic equilibrium (wind stress), and sloshing. The transport cases encompass rotation and translation of arbitrary distributions with and without diffusion. In order to further aid in model development, several experimental results are presented for tidal phenomena, temperature, channel bending, and sediment transport.
