Abstract:
Local scour around a cylindrical pile subjected to waves oblique to current was experimentally studied in a laboratory flume with a wave generator. The mode of wave-current interaction was attained by combining monochromatic waves generated in the flume with an oblique current in which the boundary layer velocity profile was artificially created. The relevant scour variables were measured in the combined flow, and it was found that the relative scour depth could be represented in nondimensional form by a quadratic relationship.
