Part of: Foundations for Transmission Line Towers

Abstract:

This paper summarizes present conception and design of foundations for 90 to 400 kV overhead lines in France. Firstly principles of geotechnical studies in use are presented: various types and number of soil investigations are discussed. Then several kinds of foundations employed are described: pad and chimney foundations for towers in soft soils; block foundation in case of rocky soils; present tendency in use of driven piers for separate footing foundations of towers; and foundations for single poles. Designs and safety coefficients of such foundations are presented.
