Abstract:

This special technical publication contains the proceedings of a two session symposium on foundations for transmission line towers. These papers were written by researchers, geotechnical consulting engineers, engineers from transmission line companies, and contractors. The papers discuss loads applied to transmission line towers, performance criterions, site investigations, current practice in Europe, uplift behavior of drilled shafts, piles, multi-helix anchors, spread foundations, horizontal behavior of directly embedded single poles, and of drilled shafts or piles next to a trench. Although many questions remain unanswered this special technical publication is a very valuable tool for the engineers and the researchers who seek current knowledge on foundations of transmission line towers.
