Abstract:

To combat rising energy costs, Southwire Company, a manufacturer of wire and cable products headquartered in Carrollton, Georgia, began generating its own electrical power at the company's Wyre Wynd division in Jewett City, Connecticut. Southwire renovated a hydro facility built on the site nearly a century ago. Today, the new 2. 75 MW low-head hydro plant provides Wyre Wynd with a renewable source of energy that has stabilized the division's energy costs.
