Abstract:

The implementation of the FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) into portable instrumentation has contributed to advances not only in signal analysis but also to new and improved transducers for use with such instruments. Since field measurements provide the basis for advances in engineering through the comparison of actual performance with predicted performance a knowledge of transducers and signal analysis capabilities is useful to engineers. This paper presents case histories to illustrate the capabilities of field instrumentation and transducers. Particular attention is devoted to the sensitivity thresholds of several transducers.
