Abstract:
The geotechnical specialty known as soil dynamics has developed during the past 25 years from a minor role to a mainstream discipline. Professor F. E. Richart has played a major role in the development of this specialty; he has progressively led the way to conquering the basic elements required to build a sound and rational approach to problems of soil and foundation dynamics. The papers in this book were presented in recognition of his accomplishments. Topics include the strength of soils in terms of effective stress, recent developments in resonant column testing, limits on dynamic measurements and instrumentation, and shallow seismic exploration in soil dynamics.
Subject Headings: Soil dynamics | Soil strength | Soil stress | Seismic tests | Effective stress | Dynamic tests | Structural strength
