The Resident Engineer as Construction Team Member

by Charles E. Mergentime, Mergentime Corp, Flemington, NJ, USA,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: The Role of the Resident Engineer

Abstract:

The success of a construction project is affected by the actions of the resident engineer (RE). Good REs don't come off the street; they are developed through training and experience. And they serve the best interests of an Owner by understanding that adversarial relationships with a Contractor benefit no one, and indeed, result only in lost dollars through litigation. In this paper, the author outlines the responsibilities and limitations of the RE and contrasts the good and bad ones.
