Abstract:

During the 70's and the early 80's a research program has been carried out in Sweden regarding the long term behaviour of buried plastic pipes. The program has included repeated measurements of the deflection on sewage pipelines with a total length of 1,305 m. The investigated pipelines were 19 different stretches between manholes situated on 6 different sites in Sweden. In this paper the result of this long term investigation is presented and analysed. It is shown that the method, which at present is widely used for calculation of the pipe deflection, based on the pipe load concept must be modified. A proposal for a more realistic method, which takes into consideration also the installation conditions and the quality of the workmanship is presented.
