Abstract:

Under the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, the Green Acres program has been at the forefront of the state's commitment to open up its beaches as well as its tidal waterways for recreational use. Since 1961, 219 acres of beachfront property have been acquired by county and local governments with Green Acres grant assistance totalling nearly 4 million. Over 26 million has been to committed to local governments to preserve and enhance vital tidal waterfront areas.
