Abstract:

Numerous Federal acts relating to beach erosion and shoreline protection have been enacted impacting Hawaii's ocean and shoreline. In an effort to protect the shoreline, many privately owned seawalls have been and are being built. Unfortunately, in many instances, seawalls built to protect the shoreline appear to be aggravating the beach erosion problem.
