Abstract:

The field observation and investigation in recent years show that the coast erosion in the area is mainly caused by rapid reduction of sediment supply. The deposit materials are uplifted by wave and removed by tidal current. In comparison with the calculated transportation of sediment by wave and tidal current, the latter plays a main role in removing it. An experimental study on protecting beach has been conducted. The experiment of combining separated offshore breakwater and groins demonstrates a better way than the existing one.
