Abstract:

This paper explores the experience of the authors in collecting data and designing leachate collection and treatment facilities at municipal sanitary landfills over the last several years. Predictive methodology for developing flows and loads is compared to actual collected data, and treatment strategies over time are discussed. Six years of data on leachate characteristics and flows from a site containing two large lined landfills are presented. Efforts to expand and upgrade leachate collection and treatment facilities with expanding landfill operations are also documented.
