Abstract: A two phase approach is developed to evaluate the reliability of a finite linear elastic beam subject to a random point load on uncertain elastic foundation. In phase 1, an approximate closed form solution for the deflection of the beam for arbitrary deterministic foundation stiffness is derived based on Decomposition method of solving differential equations. In phase 2, the marginal probability distribution of the deflection is evaluated based on First and Second Order Reliability methods. A numerical example is provided to demonstrate the applicability of the method.
