Abstract:

This paper will discuss advances in the field of tidal hydraulics since the inception of the ASCE Hydraulics Division 50 years ago. Activities of the Committees on Tidal Hydraulics of both ASCE and the US Army Corps of Engineers are described. It will then describe various advancements in the areas of physical modeling, analytical considerations, numerical modeling, hybrid modeling, and instrumentation. Finally, some of the remaining research needs will be identified.
