Abstract:

Straightening and widening 118 mi (190 km) of state road 44 in northwest New Mexico in under three years required some innovative financing. Not only did the New Mexico State Highway and Transportation Department find the money, it got a 20-year warranty from the developer, who is counting on its pavement design to outlast the warranty.
