Abstract:

The present paper has a two prong emphasis. Firstly, it demarcates the physical, structural and socio-economic environment in central Macedonia and the associated water management issues. Secondly, it attempts to delineate holistic watershed management strategies for the region incorporating as a case study the recently completed action plan for, the environmental rehabilitation of Lake's Koroneia watershed approximately 16 km north - east of Thessalonike, where the basin-wide degradation has reached almost catastrophic dimensions.
