Abstract:

This proceedings, Filtration and Drainage in Geotechnical/Geoenvironmental Engineering, is a collection of papers presented at the sessions sponsored by the Geo-Institute in conjunction with the ASCE Annual Convention held in Boston, Massachusetts, October 18-21, 1998. The papers address diverse topics related to soil and geotextile filter design and performance. The problem of filtration and drainage has assumed a broader connotation in the context of geoenvironmental engineering. Recent studies focused on soil/geotextile filter clogging due to fine particle transport and the associated physicochemical and biological mechanisms, in addition to the conventional issues of base soil and filter stability. This collection of papers represents the state-of-the-art in laboratory, field, and theoretical investigations on all the aspects of filtration and drainage.
