Abstract:

In this Mead award-winning essay by a student member of ASCE, the author argues that sustainable development is a worthy and attainable goal. He maintains that adhering to principles set forth in ASCE's Canon of Ethics will allow civil engineers to do their jobs while always keeping in mind the well-being of the public and the sustainability of our resources. The author cites several examples of projects that illustrate his thesis.
