Abstract:

This paper describes a simple physically-based distributed parameter hydrologic model of catchment response using a network of capacitors and resistors. The effect of topography is modeled using a spatial distribution of surface depressional storages, including attributes such as volume, surface area and overflow depth. The model equations are cast in a form to accommodate and simulate the effects of spatial and temporal variability of rainfall, infiltration rate, land use, and initial and boundary conditions on catchment response. Preliminary results are sufficiently encouraging to suggest that the procedure is worthy of further study.
