Abstract:

Vertical plate fish screens have been installed at a number of locations within the Pacific Northwest The vertical orientation of the screen panels requires screen cleaning systems designed specifically for the screen panel orientation. The screen cleaning systems found to be the most effective at vertical screen panel installations are mechanical (brush) screen cleaners and water backwash systems. The purpose of this paper is to briefly outline the design considerations associated with selecting and designing a mechanical screen cleaner or water backwash system.
