Abstract:

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has instituted a program to satisfy the FHWAs requirements to evaluate the scour potential of the Nations bridges. The SCDOT's statewide program is comprised of the evaluation and appraisal of over 2,600 bridge sites. A diverse range of hydraulic conditions exists since the state of South Carolina can be classified into four unique physiographic regions. These regions include lower coastal plain, upper coastal plain, piedmont, and blue ridge.
