Abstract:

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) is evaluating the potential for scour at bridges which have a National Bridge Inventory (NBI)-Item 113 Code Rating of 6 (scour susceptible). This rating applies to structures where scour has been observed and a scour evaluation study has not been preformed. To facilitate completion of the required Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) scour evaluation program, a systematic flow chart (algorithm) approach has been adopted to assist DelDOT. This approach has been prepared to provide a cost effective scour evaluation of structures within DeIDOT's bridge inventory without compromising the validity and accuracy of the scour predictions as suggested in HEC-18.
