Abstract:

A method which allows for a non-intrusive evaluation of the dynamic response of the inflatable dams under overflow and impounding water conditions is presented. The internal pressure variations were measured and showed a good response characteristic of inflatable structure. Flow visualization of the dam was based on HeNe laser light sheets and entrapped air-bubbles and water-borne debris. Average velocity measurements were also presented. A specialized timer/camera setup was utilized to non-intrusively check the oscillations of the structure, using video images which were digitized and enhanced.
