Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Computing in Civil Engineering

Abstract:

The paper concerns the development of a computer-based capability for conducting conceptual design using emergent(self-organizing) computing paradigms that arrive at a solution through simulated evolution and artificial learning. Specifically, a genetic algorithm is coupled with a neural network to create a computational model for conceptual design that relies directly on the experience and judgment of the designer to arrive at alternate best-concept solutions.
