Abstract:

Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) design processes involve the participation of many designers who may be working independently in geographically distinct locations. We define configuration as a design state stored in multiple databases: each configuration has a set of discipline-specific databases and an associated set of inter-disciplinary constraints. In this paper, we present different approaches to constraint checking in AEC design configurations. We provide a formal description for configurations and the semantics for handling the design changes on configurations.
