Abstract:

Ground improvement technologies have traditionally played an integral and important role in major geotechnical construction projects throughout the history of civil engineering and selection of the appropriate technology becomes an integral part of successfully completing a project. This paper presents an overview of the development of a user friendly International Knowledge Database for Ground Improvement Geo-Systems (IKD-GIGS) that will aid rational selection, design, and construction of an optimal ground improvement technology for a given site condition taking into account the past experiences, economics and environmental constraints. The information content of IKD-GIGS will consist of an integrated information on various current technologies for ground improvement categorized by country and by application.
