Abstract:

The City of Everett, Washington, supplies water to most of the population of Snohomish County, located just north of Seattle. The County is rapidly urbanizing, and preliminary review of projected water demands during the City's most recent planning effort indicated a need for expansion of the system's transmission capacity. The City applied integrated resource planning (IRP) techniques in updating its comprehensive water system plan. The results confirmed the need for a new transmission pipeline, but also identified several cost-effective interim strategies that delay the large capital investment the new supply pipeline will require.
