Abstract:

The paper illustrates the mode of operation of the Engineering Design Research Center (EDRC) at Carnegie Mellon University by describing a number of EDRC projects related to structural engineering design research, emphasizing the cross-disciplinary flow of concepts that contributed to the projects as well as those that have originated in structural engineering and have subsequently been adopted in other disciplines.
