Abstract:

This paper presents experimental results on the use of rectangular steel jackets to improve the seismic performance of rectangular steel jackets to improve the seismic performance of rectangular reinforced concrete columns with an inadequate splice. Four full-scale cantilever column specimens with poorly confined short splices were tested under cyclic lateral force. The unretrofitted column showed an early dramatic failure. However, the column strengthened with a steel jacket of adequate length and with well distributed adhesive anchor bolts showed excellent performance.
