Abstract:

This is a summary of the original full length paper which is available from the author. This paper assumes a basic technical knowledge of reinforced concrete design and prestressed concrete design. A brief overview is provided of design procedures for post-tensioned concrete construction and the American Concrete Institute Building Code requirements. The paper reviews construction details for use in avoiding common problems in post-tensioned concrete structures and shows several examples to demonstrate the selection of these details. Finally, an overview is provided to describe the current state of the art and new developments in post-tensioned concrete floor systems.
