Abstract:

Current engineering design procedures use a yield theory to establish the nominal resistance (capacity) for laterally-loaded nailed connections in engineered structures. In order to develop the nominal resistance for laterally-loaded nailed connections the bending yield moment of the nails must be known. This paper describes test procedures used to determine bending yield moment of nails when subjected to static loading.
