Abstract:

The Federal Highway Administration is conducting ongoing research which investigates the development length of uncoated and epoxy coated prestressing strand in prestressed concrete members. Fifty prestressed concrete rectangular specimens were fabricated in the first phase of the study, and the transfer and development lengths of these specimens were determined. The results of the transfer and development length experimentation for the specimens with uncoated prestressing strand are given in this paper, and are compared to provisions in the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Specifications. A description of the ongoing work in the second phase of the study is also provided.
