Abstract:

A new type of self-equilibrating snap-back (quick-release) test setup is employed to investigate the transverse dynamic response of a two-span continuous slab-on-girder highway bridge. Experimental results from field tests are compared with predictions from both a detailed elastic 3D finite element model of the bridge and a nonlinear quasi-3D-2DOF model that can be used directly in inelastic time-history studies of seismic response.
