Abstract:

A new, practical, computer-assisted laboratory, 'AN/EX,' has been developed for teaching structural engineering. Specifically, AN/EX has been developed to encourage cross-verification between computer structural analyses and laboratory experiments on small-scale models. Students using the AN/EX laboratory are required to design, conduct, and present original structural engineering experiments that encompass manual analyses, computer structural analyses, and experimental testing. Open-ended design/build/test competitions are incorporated as well.
