by Andrew Petro, N.A.S.A. Johnson Space Center, Houston, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Engineering, Construction, and Operations in Space IV

Abstract:

This paper will describe the Spacecab conceptual design and operational scenario. Spacecab is not necessarily a unique design solution but it does illustrate a design philosophy that differs from that which typically drives the research and development efforts of government spaceflight agencies. The objective is a vehicle design that can be developed and operated by private industry in order to attract a whole new class of customers into the spaceflight market.
