Abstract:

A transputer based onboard computer for planetary vehicles is being designed in the KFKI Research Institute for Particle and Nuclear Physics (RMKI), Budapest, Hungary. In this paper we present the current state of this work. First we introduce the project and describe the tasks of the future computer. Next we deal with the most general requirements and constraints. The guidelines of the design and the necessary compromises are also discussed here. In the third and fourth points we turn our attention to some special hardware and software aspects respectively. As a conclusion we try to summarize what the have solved so far and what is to be solved in the near future.
