Abstract:

The paper describes the parameters and the structure of the seed of a data base of properties and observed field behavior of expansive soils assembled from an extensive literature review. The data base has been designed in such a manner that it could easily be integrated into reliability analysis programs or used in conjunction with expert systems for the analysis and design of piers in expansive soils. The paper also describes the variability of the compiled data from several statistical analyses of the more influential parameters assembled in the data base.
