Abstract:

This paper presents two tests of continuous composite beams comprising two 7.5 m spans and two concentrated loads close to the intermediate support. Although the cross-sections on the intermediate support have a class 3 web (the elastic resistance can be reached but local buckling prevents development of the plastic resistance), a very large redistribution of bending moments from the hogging region to the sagging one has been observed. These tests justify the methods developed in EUROCODE 4 to deal with this type of cross-section.
