Abstract:

The European Community has initiated the preparation of a set of harmonized structural codes. Eurocode 4 is the code for the design of composite steel and concrete structures. The first draft of Part 1 for buildings was published in 1985 for public comment. Following this consultation phase a revision was started. The revised document will be issued by the European Committee for Standardization as a European Prestandard (ENV). In this paper an outline is given of the scope, the background and some principal features of this ENV.
