Abstract:

A largely analytical study of tidal flow in the Sacramento/San Joaquin delta system provides the basis of an investigation of physical model distortion on tidal circulation in a complicated network of tidal channels. Dynamic similitude requires that friction be enhanced in a distorted physical model, but the scaling varies with the aspect ratio of the prototype channel. Phasing of the tidal response is identified as the key indicator of a viable model.
