Abstract:

A simple technique for removing tidal fluctuations from drawdown data was examined. This technique relied simply upon transforming measured surface water level data to fit the pretest groundwater level data. Estimates of aquifer diffusivity obtained from the tidal amplitude multiplier, used to transform the measured surface water level data in the detrending technique, agreed well with estimates derived from type-curve fitting of the transformed drawdown. Use of the surface water data to remove tidal fluctuations from the pumping test data underscored the need to monitor surface water levels in the adjacent tidal water body throughout the entire pumping test.
