Restoration of Batiquitos Lagoon: Cooperative Effort, Judicially Sanctioned

by Jamee Jordan Patterson, State of California, San diego, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Coastal Zone '93

Abstract:

Restoration of badly degraded Batiquitos Lagoon required a project of unprecedented size and scope, involving numerous local, state and federal agencies. The restoration project will cost an estimated $35 million to be funded by the port of Los Angeles in hopes of obtaining mitigation credits for future port projects. Primarily because of this funding connection, two environmental organizations challenged the California coastal commission's approval of the project. Their challenge has been unsuccessful.
