Abstract:

Aesthetics is critical to the public acceptance and quality of the experience of a high-speed rail system. Social, functional, visual, kinetic, and symbolic aesthetics have specific design implications for several system design elements. These design elements include station design, rolling stock, aesthetic implications of high-speed travel, graphics, landscape, and joint development. Aesthetics factors should be implemented throughout the system design process.
