Abstract:

The Japanese Ministry of construction has conducted surveys of the pavement surface condition of national highways. This paper describes the evaluation of the performance of asphalt pavement applying the Markovian method to these data, and its application to repair management. Data on more than 20,000 sites were used in this study. The main results are as follows: (1) Transition probability matrices of the asphalt pavement were analyzed for each group of highways; and (2) optimal repair strategy at the project level was examined.
