Abstract:

Scheduling involves the allocation of resources over a period of time in order to perform construction activities, satisfying project constraints. These constraints, if present, must be adhered to in order to produce and maintain a realistic schedule. In this paper, a framework for scheduling under a constrained environment is presented. Scheduling entities, project goals, as well as various types of constraints that are normally encountered in the construction of multi-storey building projects are described. An Object-Oriented prototype model is presented for representation, communication, and reasoning among various types of scheduling entities. The system can assist project teams in preparing construction schedules of multi-storey building projects.
