Abstract:

An exploratory design process for aesthetic bridge structure is proposed in this paper through developing a prototype of comprehensive CAD system. This process is conceived not only for civil engineers but also for landscape architects and environmental designers who may join in the planning process of public works. The authors have been developing a pilot CAD system consisting of knowledge base. modeling and image processing subsystems, which can support planners to consider the form of a bridge from an aesthetic viewpoint and determine its shape and basic dimensions at an early stage of structural design and analysis.
