Abstract:

This study serves as a starting point for the development of an integrated system in the structural design domain. In this paper we describe the issues that arise in the integration throughout the structural design process and offer solutions for them. This paper also describes the system architecture that consists of an Object Base, a Centralized Database, and Graphical User Interface. The Object Base is the backbone of the system and contains information and knowledge related to structural design of buildings. The Centralized Database and DBMS take exclusive charge of object data management. An object-oriented window system based on the MS-Windows is implemented for the smooth communication between users and the system. OODP method is used through all the development process from the problem analysis to the system design, and implementation.
